Question 1

What is Google's AI Overview?

Accepted Answer

Google's AI Overview is an AI-generated summary that appears at the top of search results for many queries. It synthesises information from multiple sources and cites them by link. Being cited in an AI Overview can drive significant visibility even if you do not rank #1 organically.

Question 2

What is AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation)?

Accepted Answer

AEO is the practice of structuring your content so it is cited and surfaced by AI-powered answer engines, including Google's AI Overview, Bing Copilot and Perplexity. It involves clear Q&A formatting, structured data, authoritative sourcing and direct answers near the top of your pages.

Question 3

How do I get cited in Google's AI Overview?

Accepted Answer

Google tends to cite pages that provide direct, well-structured answers to queries. Key strategies include: placing a concise direct answer near the top of the page, using clear headings and Q&A formatting, adding schema markup (FAQ, HowTo, Article), maintaining content freshness and building topical authority in your niche.

Question 4

What is the difference between an AI Overview and a Featured Snippet?

Accepted Answer

A Featured Snippet pulls a single block of text from one page to answer a query. An AI Overview synthesises information from multiple sources into a new AI-generated response, citing several pages. You can appear in an AI Overview without ranking #1 organically, and a page can sometimes appear in both.

Question 5

Is Keyword.run free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Keyword.run is currently free. It uses SerpAPI for live Google SERP data and DataForSEO for keyword metrics, both third-party services with their own pricing if you run high search volumes.

Question 6

Which countries does Keyword.run support?

Accepted Answer

Keyword.run supports 13 countries: United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Brazil, India and Japan. The country selector controls the Google regional index and language used for the search.

Question 7

How is keyword difficulty calculated?

Accepted Answer

Keyword difficulty (0 to 100) is provided by DataForSEO's Keyword Difficulty API. It estimates how hard it is to rank organically based on the authority and quality of pages currently in the top 10. Under 30 is generally achievable for newer sites; above 60 requires significant domain authority.

Question 8

What does pixel position mean?

Accepted Answer

Pixel position is Keyword.run's estimate of how far from the top of the Google SERP your result appears, in pixels. It accounts for ads, AI Overview, Featured Snippets, Shopping and other SERP features. A #1 rank below a large AI Overview may appear 500px or more below the fold on desktop.
